Building trust and rapport is essential when connecting with responders within the victim advocacy field. The Safe Helpline presentation is an interactive way to help you and your team learn more about how our services support members of the Department of Defense (DoD) community impacted by sexual violence. By hosting a Safe Helpline presentation, you will have the opportunity to put a “face” to the service, ask questions, better understand how Safe Helpline can support the work that you do every day and provide direct feedback. Participation in the Safe Helpline presentation can be used toward one hour of D-SAACP credit for Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs) and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Victim Advocates (SAPR VAs).

What is a Safe Helpline Presentation?

The Safe Helpline currently offers four different briefs.

The Safe Helpline 101 brief is 1 hour, awards 1 continuing education unit for D-SAACP, and fulfills the DoDI 6495.03 Safe Helpline requirement for D-SAACP recertification. The intended audiences for the Safe Helpline 101 brief are SARCs, SAPR VAs, SVC/VLCs, chaplains, medical and mental health personnel, military police, any other military or civilian service providers, and general Service members who are not familiar or are only somewhat familiar with Safe Helpline. Here's what the presentation covers: 

  • Ways Safe Helpline staff support survivors, friends and family members of survivors and responders
  • How we ensure Safe Helpline services are anonymous and confidential and what that means for survivors utilizing our services
  • Videos and demonstrations on tools Safe Helpline has created to ensure survivors have a number of ways to access support
  • How Safe Helpline services integrate and work with existing SAPR/SHARP services
  • New and upcoming services and initiatives

 

The Safe Helpline 102 brief is 1 hour and awards 1 continuing education unit for D-SAACP. This brief is intended for SAPR and SHARP teams that have previously attended a Safe Helpline 101 brief or have significant working knowledge of Safe Helpline services. The Safe Helpline 102 brief covers: 

  • Recognizing and discussing common barriers to disclosure and reporting for survivors of sexual assault on base
  • Enhancing existing SAPR and SHARP program strategies to support survivors of sexual assault using Safe Helpline resources

 

The Safe Helpline 103 brief is 1 hour, and awards 1 continuing education unit for D-SAACP, and provides a high-level overview of Safe Helpline, how Safe Helpline supports the work of SAPR and SHARP teams on-base, and ways leadership can leverage Safe Helpline resources to support survivors of sexual assault. This brief is intended for leadership who are interested in raising awareness about services available and supporting survivors on base. The Safe Helpline 103 brief covers: 

  • The key tenets of Safe Helpline, including services available to support survivors, staff training, and the importance of anonymity and confidentiality
  • How Safe Helpline services are supporting Service members and the SAPR personnel on your base
  • Resources available for leadership to support survivors of sexual assault through the Safe Helpline

 

The Local Safe HelpRoom brief is 1 hour and awards 1 continuing education unit for D-SAACP. This brief is intended for SARCs or SAPR VAs who would like to learn more about the registration, training, and session planning processes for Local Safe HelpRoom. During the Local Safe HelpRoom brief you will:

  • Develop a solid understanding of how Local Safe HelpRoom can reduce time and geographic barriers to accessing care, while expanding the services available to the survivors you serve.
  • Leave feeling confident about navigating the registration and moderator training processes, and structuring your own Local Safe HelpRoom sessions  

How Long is the Presentation and Who Should Attend?

Typically one hour, the length of the presentation can be adjusted to fit the needs of the audience (between 30-90 minutes). For example, for a general Service member audience, we recommend a 30-minute overview presentation, but for an audience of SAPR VAs or stakeholders, we recommend a 60-90 minute presentation to allow for questions and a more detailed discussion. However, we are happy to tailor a presentation to meet your individual needs.

Where is the Presentation?

Due to COVID-19, all Safe Helpline presentations are currently offered virtually via Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and teleconference. 

How Do I Request a Presentation?

To request a presentation, please send an email to outreach@safehelpline.org. All presentations will need to be approved by DoD Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office.
